Labour hasn’t needed Scotland to win power in Westminster for over 60 years. And it shows. No wonder it takes no interest in Scotland’s priorities. Meanwhile its branch office members have to tread the streets trying to convince voters that Scotland’s priorities are the same as England’s!
Just don’t mention the hard Brexit England voted for, or the austerity and increasing NHS privatisation favoured by the Unionist parties they vote into power.
Since World War II the Labour party has only needed to win seats in Scotland twice to gain power at Westminster – in 1950 and in 1964. Since then it has won a majority of seats purely from England and Wales.
So next time a Labour member in Scotland claims we’re important – remember that the bosses in England really don’t feel the same way.
