The latest Westminster poll from YouGov (18-19th May 2025) show that Plaid Cymru is Britain’s most popular party, with the SNP a close second.
Plaid Cymru is the most popular party in Wales, and The SNP is the most popular in Scotland. Both only campaign in their respective nations.
Let’s adjust YouGov’s Westminster Intentions poll for each party’s geographic coverage. This better reflects party popularity by recognising the relevance of each party to the voters in each of the nation(s) that party operates in. Do this, and the poll takes on a quite different perspective.

This chart shows the proportion of voters who support each party – in the nation(s) across they operate. Thus the British parties overwhelmingly get their support from England (shown in red).
British polls always merge the two Green parties (The Green Party in England and Wales, and The Scottish Greens in Scotland). These parties have been distinct, with their own manifestos, party structure etc. for decades. In this chart I’ve seperated them out.
Of course in Britain’s parliamentary structure it is England that dictates the party taking its turn in power at Westminster. Once again this chart illustrates how disenfranchised voters in the other nations really are.
Reform UK may be on the rise and a big threat to the British political order – particularly in England – but it doesn’t hide the fact that Westminster’s democractic system desperately needs reform. But not Reform. You get the idea.
