Labour Humour

A growing collection of cartoons and graphics adapting Labour in Scotland messages, rather than being particularly about Independence.

Brexit – we love it!

Labour doesn’t like talking about Brexit – and with good reason. It supports the Tory hard Brexit because its afraid of those right wing Brexit swing voters in England who might lose it power. Of course a large majority in Scotland want to re-join the EU – so its a great attack line for all the unionist parties.

This graphic highlights the Labour public position (we love Brexit) whilst reinforcing the message that “Westminster rules” Scotland – so they’ll do what they want, irrespective of Scotland’s preferences.

Logos and Identity Marks

The logo above is “Labour in Scotland” – because “Scottish Labour” is just an optional identity mark for the Labour branch office, and not a registered party:

Note if you want authenticity in your “Labour” graphics, the party standard font these days is Poppins which you can download from Google Fonts for free. Its branding graphics are here.

Here are some more plays on logos and brand graphics:

Note that a “wilted flower” is a standard emoji 🥀 that can be used instead of Labour’s usual “rose” icon in social media text.

U-turns and Lies

Starmer is infamous for announcing a policy – then immediately u-turning on it. This is particularly embarrassing for Labour in Scotland, which clearly isn’t “in the loop” about u-turns and quite often gets left publicly supporting what is no longer policy. Oops.

Labour clearly develops its policies purely with England – and in particular those right-wing swing voters – in mind. It’s hard to spot any Scottish content. And quite often it’s hard to spot the difference from Tory policy.

This means that often Labour policy overlaps devolved powers. So Labour couldn’t change things in this area in Scotland even if they wanted to. The policy is entirely about England – this is never made clear by them or the UK media. This is hinted at in the second graphic above.

Jackie Baillie – an outstanding mouthpiece

Baillie is a highly outspoken Labour MSP. She’s infamous for her no/half truth posts on Social Media. Who better, then, to be crowned as Scottish Politician of the Year?

Starmer’s Vision ignores Scotland

Let’s Get Britain’s Future Back” is Starmer’s attempt a vision for the UK’s future under Labour’s control. Published in Jan-2024 it is notable for what it doesn’t mention.

There is no place in Starmer’s Labour vision for Scotland – which is not mentioned at all. It only mentions the EU and Brexit as “Tory failures” with no Labour solution, and ignores Labour’s support for creeping NHS privatisation.

Scotland isn’t seen as part of “Britain’s future” – perhaps Labour is quietly recognising that Independence is inevitable 😊
